BIRDLIP – 05-05-2007 – CARL O’CONNOR
Hi all,
Firstly I’d like to thanks all the competitors who turned up to make Birdlip a fun day, 6 sections were laid out in the morning as unfortunately, no one could be found to lay out on Friday. Most of the sectioned could be altered with relative ease to make more if time permitted.
13 competitors turned up to play on Saturday; sadly our 13 became 12 as we needed someone to marshal, special thanks to Tony O’Connor to agreeing to take on this duty.
Our first two sectioned involved the only bit of ‘proper’ mud of the day, they were difficult enough to catch a number of cars out near the end of each sections but easy enough to allow a couple of clears.
Section 3 was abandoned after the 3rd car had a small accident near the end of the section; the driver of the car was fine and even found time to get his picture taken whilst stood on his wheel. A special mention must go out to Buster Grant for helping in the recovery of the stricken car.
Section 4 involved the use of memory as the gates where not exactly just a case of turn left or right after the previous gate, most people cleared the section but I imagine a navigator would have helped.
After a short lunch break we carried on with proceeding and started using some of the grassy hills, this increased the number of clears but also increased the nice views whilst trying to clear sectioned, sadly for Tom and Mike ALRCher their car decided it preferred 2wd from here on in so they missed out on some of the lovely views...
Section 6 was a monster of a section, with Martin James joking he was in the lead because he completed it in 1m30sec, only for me to go round in 1min25sec not long after (I’m sure I used less fuel as well in the diesel than his V8)
Section 7 was a bit of a strange one, very tight and twisty, also a bit bumpy, it did produce an array of scores but they were mostly below 3, it was looking like a low scoring day.
Sections 8 and 9 returned us to the little bit of water we used at the start of the day, again there were a few interesting scores (especially from Martin James and myself who both messed up an easy mud bog) I think Martin quite enjoyed pulling me out... thanks Martin.
Anyway, thanks everybody for turning up for a fun day in the sun, and lets all look forward to our next trial on 14th July at Cleeve Hill.
See you all soon.
Carl O’Connor
