July Update
Hi All
Just got back from a fantastic week down in Devon for the 2010 national. Well it worked, the weather was fantastic all week except for the first Saturday while the RTV was on.
We had a great club turn out this year with over 30 units attending during the week. We took one of the club marquees this year so we would have somewhere to meet if the weather turned bad, as it happened we only used it a couple of nights but it was useful to have. We had a great get together on the Saturday night, so great we lost track of time and were up quite late, well early, sorry if we kept anyone awake !!!
One of the trial sections was in the middle of the camping field and it had a very muddy hole in the middle. Jack, Baileigh and Albert Walton decided to play a game of team recovery right in the middle of it, at one point all three were well and truly stuck, I would like to thank Kate for taking the plunge and going in to rescue them all. Off to the water tap with the Aquaroll hose was the only way to get my two clean.
As I said we were very lucky with the weather, so we went in search of a beach. First we went to Plymouth but no beach , but we had some superb fish and chips overlooking the sea.
Next day, Mike Hayes took us on a mystery tour to a lovely quiet beach with a shallow river mouth which the kids and dogs loved. The following day Marie and Me went a bit further east and found a place called Bigbury on Sea which is well know (apparently) for its Burgh Island. We had found our place for the following days, one beach, two sets of waves and rock pools to die for. We took the Downes there one day through about 5 miles of very narrow lanes in their new disco 4, you should have seen the sweat on his forehead and red knuckles after driving down them.
A great week was had by all, great venue, great weather, and most of all great company. Thaks to you all !!!
Next years national is at Kings Lynn, so make a note and lets make it another great event…..
Leigh
Introduction
Hi, my name is Leigh Heaven and I’m your new caravan secretary, for those who don’t know me I’m the tall bloke with two young boys a baby girl and a dopey Labrador called boomer.
The first thing I would like to do is thank Jim Savage for the great job he has done over the past few years. He told me he couldn’t have done it without all the volunteers he had to run the events and said they are always willing to help (hint, hint).
I am currently working on next year’s calendar, I will be trying some new venues as well as keeping the old favourites. As I have young children myself I will be looking to introduce some venues with kid’s facilities as well, so if anyone has been or can suggest some new places please let me know. I am still working on the holiday rally locations but the dates have been chosen.
If you have never been on a club event before why not give it a try, to be honest I was a bit apprehensive at first but once I attended my first rally I was hooked, great locations, friendly people and the odd drink or two.
Finally, I will to my best to try and keep the section running as smoothly as before and I will probably make some mistakes along the way, so if I do something your not sure about please don’t hesitate to let me know so I can do something about it, I don’t bite, well not that hard….. Keep an eye on the web site as I may add some weekends at the last minute if we get a great summer 2010. So get those suggestions to me and let’s see some new faces as well as the regular ones...
Happy camping Leigh
New Members
A note for any new members who would like to come along for a camping or caravanning weekend, just give us a ring with any questions you might have and we will happily try to answer them. It would be great to see some new faces, joining the familiar ones at our weekend get togethers. A gentle reminder – most of our campers when arriving at an event do, call and see the Rally Officers before selecting their pitch, but there are one or two naughty ones who do not. Please please book in with the Rally Officer so that everyone knows who is there and who is with the Midland Rover Owners Club.
We look forward to seeing you out and about in your tent or caravan.
PLEASE TELEPHONE ME AND VOLUNTEER AS A RALLY OFFICER FOR ANY OF THE EVENTS IN THIS YEARS CALENDAR.
