Privacy policy — MROC members' app

Last updated: 14 August 2026

This policy covers the Midland Rover Owners Club members' app for iOS and Android. The club's website is covered separately.

The short version: the app keeps your details on your own phone. We do not run accounts, we do not use analytics or advertising, and we do not sell anything to anyone.

Who we are

about this policy or your data, email Midland Rover Owners Club. For anything committee@mroc.co.uk.

What stays on your phone, and only on your phone

When you set the app up it asks for your name, membership number and membership type, and optionally a photo for your card. You can also photograph your Motorsport UK competition licence, driving licence or any other ID you want to be able to show at an event.

All of it is stored on the phone itself — your details in the operating system's secure store, your photographs in the app's private storage. **None of it is uploaded to the club or to anyone else.** The club has no copy, and no way to get one. Nothing you type into the setup wizard is checked against the club's membership records; the card says "details entered by member" because that is exactly what it is.

If you delete the app, all of it goes with it.

What leaves your phone

Club content. The app downloads the club's events, news, venues and settings from the club's website so it can show them to you, and keeps a copy on the phone so it still works at a venue with no signal. This is the same public information the website shows. Your phone's IP address is visible to the server serving it, as with any website.

Notification token. If you turn on notifications, your phone gives the app an anonymous token issued by Expo's push service, and the app sends that token to the club's notification server so it can address a message to your phone. The token identifies a phone, not a person — it is not connected to your name, membership number or anything else you entered. It is used only to send club news, event cancellations and membership renewal reminders. There is no marketing.

Notifications are delivered through Expo's push service, which passes them to Apple (APNs) or Google (FCM) to reach your phone. That is the complete list. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party SDK gathering usage data, and no account to sign in to.

Permissions the app asks for, and why

- Notifications — to tell you when club news is published, when an event is cancelled, and when your membership is due for renewal. Renewal reminders are generated on the phone itself and involve no server.

- Camera — only if you choose to photograph your membership card photo or an ID. Photographs are saved to the app's private storage on the phone.

- Photo library — only if you choose an existing picture for the same purpose. The app reads the picture you pick; it does not browse your library.

- Calendar — only when you tap "Add to calendar" on an event. The app writes that one event to the calendar you choose. It does not read your existing appointments for any other purpose.

You can refuse any of these and the rest of the app carries on working.

Maps

Venue maps use Apple Maps on iOS and Google Maps on Android. The tap-through buttons for directions hand the venue's location to Apple Maps, Google Maps or what3words, whichever you pick. Those apps have their own privacy policies. The app does not track your location or ask for location permission.

Children

The app is for club members and their guests and is not directed at children.

It collects nothing that would identify a child.

Removing your data

The Club tab has a Forget me button. It removes your details, card photo, any IDs you have added, saved event regulations and the cached club content from the phone, and unregisters the phone from notifications so the

club's notification server drops its token. The app returns to first-run. Your actual club membership is not affected.

Deleting the app does the same for everything held on the phone. If you want the notification server's copy of your token removed after the app is already gone, email committee@mroc.co.uk.

Your rights

Because the club holds no personal data from the app, there is generally nothing to request a copy of. For anything the club holds about you as a member — which comes from your membership application, not from this app —

write to committee@mroc.co.uk. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you think your data has been mishandled.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top.
