Midland Rover Owners Club doesn’t use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner to click through. This page explains the little we do store and collect, and why.

Who we are

Midland Rover Owners Club Ltd (“MROC”, “we”) runs www.mroc.co.uk, majors.mroc.co.uk, www.mroc4x4response.co.uk and the MROC members’ app, and is responsible for the personal information they handle. Questions or requests about your information go to secretary@mroc.co.uk.

Cookies and similar storage

Visitors get no cookies at all. The only things this site ever stores in your browser are listed below, and each is either essential for the site to work or remembers a choice you made yourself, so none needs your consent.

  • payload-token — cookie, club editors only. Keeps an editor signed in to the website’s admin area, until they sign out or it expires.
  • __prerender_bypass — cookie, club editors only. Lets an editor preview unpublished changes, until they close the preview.
  • mroc.app-banner.dismissed — local storage, only if you close the “get the app” banner. Remembers that you closed it so it stays closed, until you clear your browser data.

Our fonts are served from our own site, not from Google, so loading a page doesn’t contact any third party.

What we collect on the websites

  • Server logs. Like every website, our server receives your IP address and browser details with each request. We use these only to deliver pages and to keep the service secure.
  • Forms. If you send us something through a form on this site, we keep what you submit and pass it to the club volunteer who deals with it, so we can reply or act on it.
  • Maps. Venue and event maps load their images from OpenStreetMap, which therefore sees your IP address. OpenStreetMap sets no cookies. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
  • Links to other services. Event entry and sign-on forms are run by Fillout, and we also link to Facebook, Google Maps and Apple Maps. These are links, not embeds: nothing from them loads until you click, and once you do, their own privacy policies apply.

The MROC members’ app

  • Your profile and card photos stay on your phone. We don’t have a copy and there is no account to sign in to.
  • Club content (events, venues, news) is downloaded from our website and cached on your phone so the app works offline.
  • Notifications. If you allow notifications, the app sends our notification server a random device token and whether your phone runs iOS or Android. We use that only to send club notifications, delivered through Expo, Apple and Google. Turn notifications off in the app, or use “Forget me”, and the token is deleted.
  • Calendar, camera and photos are used only when you ask: to add an event you chose to your calendar, or to take or pick a picture of your card.
  • Maps use Apple Maps on iPhone and Google Maps on Android, which receive the usual technical information from your phone when a map is shown.
  • The app has no analytics, advertising or tracking. “Forget me” on the app’s Club tab removes everything it has stored and deletes its notification token from our server.

Why we’re allowed to use it

We handle this information because we have a legitimate interest in running the club’s websites and app, keeping them secure and answering your messages. Notifications are sent only with your permission, which you can withdraw at any time.

How long we keep it

Form submissions are kept for as long as we need them to deal with what you sent, then deleted. Notification tokens are kept until you turn notifications off, use “Forget me”, or Apple or Google tell us the token no longer works.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing secretary@mroc.co.uk. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
